Fan Information
Air circulators, or fans, from Air King come in a variety of functions and styles. Window fans are designed to fit in a window, venting cool air in our warm air out. These fans are a great way to reduce your energy usage while keeping your home cool. Air King offers a fan for just about any situation, the Air King 9166 is one of its most popular products as it is efficient and very easy to set up.
Here are some of the most common air circulator FAQs:
Do I need to lubricate the motor?
NO. The motor is permanently lubricated and does not need to be oiled.
Do I need to remove my window fan to close the window?
NO. By using Air King's "Storm Guard" feature, your window fan can be installed so that the window can close behind the fan.
My fan included a secondary support cable. Do I need to install this?
YES. Units that include a secondary support cable provide additional safety.
Bath Fan Information
Air King bathroom exhaust fans are designed to vent bath and shower steam out of the room. This is important since steam build up can lead to the deterioration of your room and the growth of mold and mildew. Ensuring that you have proper venting is key, and things like noise level and the power of the fan are very important considerations. Many of Air King's bathroom fans fit the ASHRAE 62.2 standard, a leading certification level in the HVAC industry.
See below for the most common exhaust fan FAQs:
Why do I need a bathroom exhaust fan?
Bathroom exhaust fans provide ventilation. This helps to clear the room of steam and odors. A properly ventilated bathroom helps deter the growth of mold and mildew.
Can I install my exhaust fan directly over the tub or in the shower?
Exhaust fans with a UL listing for installation over a tub or shower, or on a GFCI circuit can be installed over a bathtub or shower. This applies to most Air King exhaust fans and exhaust fans with a light. Units with any type of heating function can't be installed over a tub or shower. (Check your specific product for more information.)
My exhaust fan is operating, but the air is moving slower than normal?
First, check the grill for build up and clean if needed. Second, check for obstructions in the ductwork (a common obstruction is build up in the roof or wall cap).
Where is the best location to install my bathroom exhaust fan?
A bathroom exhaust fan should be mounted as close to the shower or tub as possible. This will maximize the effectiveness of the unit. Units located in a powder room should be installed directly over the toilet.
Range Hood Information
Range hoods are an essential part of any cooking space, but are often overlooked and forgotten. What many don't realize is that range hoods help prevent fires, flare ups, and grease build up. The difference between under cabinet range hoods, wall mounted range hoods, island range hoods, and range hood inserts is how they are installed. Depending on your needs, a range hood insert might be a better consideration compared to a wall mounted range hood. Many Air King range hoods are ENERGY STAR certified and also California Title 24 compliant. These hoods, then, meet the minimum level of energy used for an appliance. Air King is a master of manufacturing highly-efficient products with low energy use and high output.
Here are some of the most common range hood FAQs:
Why do I need a range hood?
The main function of a range hood is to prevent flare ups from the cooking surface, or in worse cases, a fire. Range hoods also provide ventilation, helping clear the cooking area of smoke, steam, odors, and grease generated from the cooking surface.
What is CFM?
Cubic Feet per Minute. CFM is a unit of measurement for how much air is moved in one minute. The higher the CFM, the more "powerful" the exhaust fan is and, in most cases, the higher the Sone level.
What is a Sone?
A Sone is an internationally recognized unit of loudness. Sones translate laboratory decibel readings into numbers that correspond to the way people sense loudness. In everyday terms, one Sone is equivalent to the sound of a quiet running refrigerator in a quiet kitchen. The lower the Sone, the quieter the exhaust fan is.
I noticed ductless range hoods do not have CFM or Sone ratings, why?
The air is being re-circulated and there is no actual ventilation taking place. There is no standard for measuring the CFM or the sone rating of a ductless range hood.
How high should my range hood be mounted from the cooking surface?
For maximum performance, Air King recommends that the range hood be mounted between 20" and 30" from the cooking surface. Always make sure you read the installation instructions and consult your local building codes before finalizing the installation.
Do I have to exhaust the range hood to the outdoors?
YES. Be sure to properly vent the exhaust air outside. DO NOT vent exhaust air into spaces within walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, or garages. A build up of humidity and grease could cause damage and/or a fire.
